As we head into a new year, you might be wondering what changes to expect for the John Deere® R series tractors. Is the improved technology and updated interior worth an upgrade? In this article we’ll break down the biggest changes and features you can expect to see in the 8R and 9R models.

9R Series Upgrades

The 9R is the biggest tractor that John Deere currently has in its portfolio. Operators who cover large acreage gravitate toward this lineup for its high horsepower and workload capacity.

Comfort

Some of the most noticeable features in the new 2022 models cater to operator comfort. For example, they come with new foot rest pegs, Bluetooth®-enabled radios, and an in-cab refrigerator. Higher level packages also include a ventilated, heated massaging seat!

Each model in the series also has a bigger cab with more storage space and additional USB ports. These upgrades put a strong emphasis on farmer connectivity.

Visibility

Depending on the package you choose, the new models also have improved visibility features. The Ultimate visibility package offers electric mirrors that are heated and telescopic. It also includes 24 work LED lights, 8 convenience LED lights, front and rear cameras, and easy to use sunshades.

Power

In the 9R series specifically, you’ll notice models ranging from 390 hp to 590 hp are now powered with a 13.6L diesel engine built and designed by John Deere. The engine was created to provide more reliability and less lifetime maintenance needs.

The 640 hp 9R model is equipped with a 15L Cummins diesel engine, and the four-track or four-wheeled tractors have 20 hp more than the previous year’s models.

8R Series Upgrades

Many of the 8R upgrades mirror those of the 9R, especially the cab and connectivity improvements. However, there are a handful of other exciting new features available.

Tire Pressure Adjustments

8R tractors equipped with Independent Link Suspension will also have the option to include the Central Tire Inflation System (CTIS). Large tractors such as this one need to utilize the correct air pressure for in-field tasks and on-road travel, but manually changing it can be difficult. CTIS technology simplifies the process by automatically increasing or decreasing air pressure from the cab when you choose the “road” or “field” setting.

Better Implement Capabilities

The new integrated 1,000 gallon ExactRate™ Tractor Tanks for the 8RX models can be paired with a John Deere planter for a combined 1,600 gallon capacity. This upgrade allows farmers to work longer between fertilizer fills, covering 80 acres at a higher rate of application.

The new improvements for the 8R and 9R series tractors truly benefit the day to day working experience. If you’re interested in seeing these 2022 models up close, visit one of our great Kansas locations! PrairieLand Partners is an exclusive John Deere dealer and offers flexible financing options.
