Check the Operating Hours and Inspect

Obviously, the more a tractor is used, the more wear and tear it builds up. That’s why you should gather as much information as you can about how many operating hours a used tractor has on it before making your purchase. Of course, a well-maintained tractor will be in better condition than one that was not maintained, even if they have the same overall number of operating hours. That’s part of the reason why it is so important that you inspect a used tractor before buying it. If you’re not sure that you’ll be able to spot potential problems, hire a mechanic to perform the inspection for you. 

Know the Repair Costs

If you discover that the used tractor you want to purchase has a few things in need of fixing, that might not be a dealbreaker! Figure out how much a repair would cost you, and if the expense is minor, go ahead and buy the tractor. If the repair will cost so much that it will push the used tractor out of your price range, it might be a better idea to start looking at other models. 

Ask for Documents

Don’t forget to ask for the used tractor’s maintenance history. In particular, you’ll want to get a hold of the serial number or PIN (product identification number). Looking through the maintenance history will also help you determine if the used tractor has any recurring issues, and whether or not previous owners took proper care of it.
